Omaha Children's Museum
The Omaha Children's Museum is designed to keep growing children engaged and interested in learning about exhibits. The age range of children it serves range from one to three, in the Wiggle Room, to pre-teens and teens. The facility boasts 45,000 square feet and has a water garden, science labs where children can perform experiments, and a large creative arts area. The Children's Museum includes the Charlie Campbell Science and Technology Center, where children can explore gadgets that were based on Leonardo da Vinci's ideas, as well as create their own gadgets at the Dream It! Build It! area.
Joslyn Art Museum
Joslyn Art Museum is a facility that exhibits many American western artifacts and artwork as well as artwork from all over the world. This large museum is child friendly and offers tours geared toward children and learning about the arts. The Joslyn Art Museum contains one of the largest research libraries in the country. It also has collections of ancient Greek pottery and Latin American artifacts, and an American Indian collection.
The Durham Museum
The Durham Museum offers a number of different children's programs, including some geared for homeschooled children, tours designed to help children learn and school tours as well. This museum has coin displays, information about railroads and exhibits devoted to the American Indians. It also has an "Omaha at Work" gallery that discusses the history of the Omaha workforce. An additional perk children will enjoy at the Durham Museum is an old fashioned soda and candy shop, where they can see how fountain soda shops used to look.
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo
The Henry Doorly Zoo has a large indoor desert and the Scott Aquarium as well as the Bear Canyon and a butterfly and insect display. Children will marvel at Gorilla Valley and Orangutan forest. The whole family will enjoy the Scott Aquarium and the Simon Avery. The zoo is family friendly and offers shows geared toward teaching children about animals and wildlife.
Strategic Air and Space Museum
The Strategic Air and Space Museum focuses on educating families about flying. Permanent exhibits include a Vietnam display, a Martin bomber and Doolittle's Toyko Raider. The museum also offers summer camps geared toward children who want to learn about science and space.
