Donate An Old Auto In Arizona

Arizona has several charities that welcome donations of used autos. Oftentimes, charitable organizations --- such as the Goodwill of Central Arizona and Friends for Life Animal Rescue --- auction off donated autos and use the proceeds to fund charitable activities. Some out-of-state charities, such as the Purple Heart Car Donation Program and the Family Care Foundation, will make arrangements to pick up a donated auto free of charge, which saves you the time and hassle of dropping it off.

Instructions

1. Research Arizona-based charities or out-of-state charities that serve Arizona. Many charitable organizations have online information, including the organization's mission statement. Goodwill of Central Arizona and Friends for Life Animal Rescue have websites that provide specific information about donating an auto; the Resources section at the bottom of the page has links for those charities and other charities willing to accept car donations. Once you've decided on a charitable organization that accepts auto donations, contact the organization and ask about the auto donation procedure. Some out-of-state charities --- such as the Family Care Foundation --- provide online auto donation forms and a phone number or hotline.

2. Contact the charity of your choice. The charity you choose will answer your questions and provide information about which type of autos it accepts. Some charities, such as Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Valley Cats, accept automobiles that don't run. Arizona Council of the Blind is another Arizona-based charity, and it accepts auto donations through Donate Car USA. However, the charity's website doesn't mention whether an auto has to be in working condition. When in doubt, contact a charity to ask about its auto donation policy. Also, the charity or organization might need you to transfer the title to them. You can find information on transferring a title on Arizona's Motor Vehicle Division's website (see Resources). However, some organizations, such as Donate Car USA, will do the paperwork for you.

3. Schedule a pick-up or drop-off date and time. If the charity you choose offers pick-up service, schedule a date and time for the pick up. The charity might also have a drop-off location, if you prefer to drop off the donation yourself. A member of staff or a contact person will provide you with pick-up or drop-off location information.
