A garage sale is one way to get rid of your possessions.
Sometimes personal possessions may become a burden, such as when moving overseas, moving into a retirement center or even relocating into a much smaller apartment. In such cases, you can get rid of your possessions quickly in a variety of ways. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Organize all items based on type and value. Such organization will be necessary regardless of how you choose to part with the possessions. Organize kitchen appliances and dinnerware together, bath and toiletry items together. Do the same with items from the living room and bedroom.
2. Give all of your possessions away. If getting money for your possessions is not your priority, and you simply want to get rid of all of your possessions as fast as possible, contact a local mission or local branch of Goodwill Industries International and tell them you will donate the items if they will take them away free of charge. This would be the fastest way to get rid of all of your possessions.
3. Organize a garage sale if you would like to receive some money for your possession. Sell most of the smallest items such as dinner plates and silverware, games and toys, and other small items that are valued at $100 or less. This is the fastest and most efficient way to part with many small items, as they are things people can pick up and take away on their own at the time of purchase.
4. Hire an auction house to auction off larger and more valuable items. Although auction houses will ask for a percentage of all sales for their services, an auction allows you to extract the highest possible price for the valuable goods. Items such as home stereo equipment, large television sets, furniture, recreational vehicles and large kitchen appliances are all best sold via auction.
5. Donate all items that were not sold through the garage sale or the auction to a local mission or branch of Goodwill Industries International. Whatever clothing and appliances remain could be put to good use by needy individuals in your community.
