List of East Coast Colleges in North Carolina That Offer Photography
North Carolina's universities have art departments with faculty and courses in a wide variety of media, including photography. These departments offer BA (Bachelor of Art) degrees and BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) degrees to undergraduates, and often have graduate students working toward Masters or PhD degrees as well.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: Department of Art
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, commonly referred to as UNC Chapel Hill, awards BA and BFA degrees to undergraduates in its Department of Art. All art majors, whether working toward a BA degree or BFA degree, must complete four interdisciplinary foundation courses as prerequisites to upper level courses. Students can select photography as their medium of concentration. Students working toward a BFA will have to take more courses in their concentration; students working toward a BA have the opportunity to major in another field. UNC Chapel Hill was ranked 28th in US News and World Report's 2010 rankings of national universities.

University of North Carolina at Asheville: Art Department
University of North Carolina at Asheville offers a BA degree with a concentration in Studio Art as well as a BFA degree. BFA students must complete 42 hours of studio course work and 12 hours of art history. BFA students must complete a senior project and present a show in the University Gallery; BA students are encouraged to do the same. BFA students can select photography as their medium of concentration, and must complete 21 hours of course work in that concentration. Students working two-dimensionally can take advantage of the school's individual studio space for students.

Duke University: Art, Art History, and Visual Studies
Duke University's Art, Art History and Visual Studies program offers a major in visual arts with a concentration in photography. Undergraduates can study digital graphics, digital photography or traditional darkroom photography. Photography classes are offered in collaboration with the Center for Documentary Studies (CDs.aas.duke.edu). The undergraduate art major requires 11 courses. Duke University was ranked 10th in US News and World Report's 2010 rankings of national universities.
