Cooking Colleges In New Hampshire

The options for culinary arts training in New Hampshire are expanding.


The increasing popularity of cooking programs on television has provoked greater interest in culinary arts as a career. New Hampshire now hosts four culinary arts colleges. The Chez Boucher Culinary Arts Training Center is a private school, and three public schools also offer degree programs in culinary arts: Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College), New Hampshire Community Technical College in Berlin/Laconia, and the University of New Hampshire's Thompson School of Applied Science.


Chez Boucher


Chez Boucher, located in Hampton, is a private culinary school. It offers a wide variety of classes, courses and workshops in cooking. Chez Boucher's basic professional certification program lasts six months, at six hours-a-day for five days-a-week. The cost of the basic program, as of 2011, is $9,500 per student. In addition to the basic course, Chez Boucher offers specialty classes and one-day workshops.


Southern New Hampshire University


Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College) is in Manchester. SNHU offers an Associates program in Culinary Arts, certified by the American Culinary Federation, as well as a Bachelor's program in Culinary Management. Undergraduate day students will pay, as of 2011, $13,056 a semester for tuition.


New Hampshire Community Technical College at Berlin


New Hampshire Community Technical College at Berlin offers an Associates program in Culinary Arts, also certified by the American Culinary Federation. NHCTC charges by the credit hour, $175 for in-state students, and $400 for out-of-state. Practicuum fees are also attached.


The Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire


The Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire's main campus in Durham offers a culinary arts curriculum that includes 700 hours of on-campus practical application in conjunction with theoretical classes, followed by 400 hours working in local food establishments. Undergraduate tuition for full-time resident students at UNH, as of 2011, is $5,365 a semester. Out-of-state students pay $12,350 a semester.
