Organizations That Accept Furniture Donations

You can donate furniture to a variety of organizations.

Furniture donation is beneficial to those organizations that assist the less fortunate. Your furniture may go to an abused woman who has recently sought new shelter, a working family who struggles to pay bills or an elderly couple on a fixed income. Alternatively, many organizations sell donated furniture in a thrift store to raise money to help the needy. Along with a number of national organizations, most communities house local organizations that also accept donations.

Goodwill

Goodwill is a widely popular organization that assists people who may encounter challenges when seeking employment. The network assists people with disabilities and criminal backgrounds as well as those who lack job experience by teaching the necessities of careers in banking, health care and other business sectors. The Goodwill mission receives funding from sales from donated items in more than 2,400 retail stores across the United States and Canada. The organization welcomes furniture donations and may offer pick-up that you can arrange by calling your local Goodwill store.

Salvation Army

A faith-based organization, the Salvation Army helps the less fortunate in the communities hosting centers. The organization was formed in 1878 and aims to meet basic human needs. The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center treats dependency on drugs and alcohol. Those going through the program work in the Salvation Army Family Store to learn vocational skills and gain self esteem. The Salvation Army accepts furniture donations and sells them in their thrift stores. The Rehabilitation Center solely funds itself from proceeds received by the thrift stores.

America's Thrift Stores

America's Thrift Stores is a faith-based organization that accepts new and used items to sell in retail stores. This organization focuses on strengthening the family foundation by supporting faith-based charities financially. You may take furniture donations to stores throughout the Southeast or arrange for pick-up at your home.

National Furniture Bank

The National Furniture Bank is a non-profit organization that accepts furniture donations to donate to those families in need. Recipients may include disabled people, victims of domestic violence or natural disasters as well people who were previously homeless but are in the process of transitioning to a new home. The furniture bank works with varying organizations throughout a community to determine need. Over 60 banks exist across the United States. Some of the banks collaborate with as many as 200 community organizations. To donate furniture, visit the Furniture Bank website to find a local branch.
