Donate Furniture To A New York Cancer Charity

You may have a relative or friend who suffered from cancer, or you may have survived the illness yourself. No matter why you're interested in donating furniture to a New York cancer charity, you have a few options when making these types of "in kind" donations. Many charities, including those in New York that deal primarily with helping people with cancer, accept furniture to either use for their charitable work or sell at a thrift store to raise money. While delivering your furniture to your selected New York cancer charity may be a good way to help the organization keep its operating costs down, some charities will arrange for a volunteer or staff member to pick up your donation.

Instructions

1. Determine if your furniture is safe to donate to a New York cancer charity. Broken or very battered pieces of furniture may not be usable by your preferred charity.

2. Decide to which New York cancer charity you wish to donate your furniture. A few available options are The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, CancerCare Thrift Shop and the American Cancer Society Thrift Shop.

3. Review each possible charity's website or call them to ensure your donation can be used. You can call The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at 212-535-1250, CancerCare Thrift Shop at 212-879-9868 and Long Island's American Cancer Society Thrift Shop at 631-283-6789.

4. Call your selected New York cancer charity to arrange for a drop-off time (if you're willing to bring the furniture to the appropriate site yourself) or for a volunteer to pick up the donation.

5. Wipe clean your furniture before donating it. A wet paper towel and/or dusting of the piece(s) will likely also be appreciated by the New York cancer charity.

6. Visit the New York cancer charity location as directed or wait for a person to come pick up your furniture if you set that type of appointment.
