Decorate A Morocco Bedroom

Bring the rich colors of Morocco to your bedroom with a few key decorating pieces.

Decorating a bedroom with a Moroccan theme means using rich fabrics, sumptuous colors, lots of billowing drapes and canopies, and perhaps a palm tree here and there. As when employing any interior decorating "theme," it is important to keep things simple and not get too carried away---you don't want your bedroom to look like an overdone movie set. Instead, choose a couple of key pieces that you love and decorate around them---this will keep it in good taste and focused on your Moroccan theme. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Begin with a couple of key pieces. Choose some beautiful examples of Moroccan decor that have inspired you, and that you can use to get the creative juices flowing, such as a delicate silk pillow or a colorful woven basket. Use these items as your base, and begin decorating around them, using their colors, textures, etc. to tie in the rest of your decor.

2. Choose a wall color. With a Moroccan theme, you have a fairly wide selection of options for wall color---you can go with a deep, rich color (reds, greens or purples) that perhaps matches one of your key focal pieces, or you can stick with a more neutral tone (sand or beige) that will allow you to show off your bedspread or drapes, instead. Monochromatic colors (gray, white or black) won't work as well with this theme.

3. Decide on major pieces. Choose your furnishings and major textiles, like bedspreads and draperies, so that everything should mesh nicely with your key focal pieces. Wooden furniture should be either be stained dark or painted with bright colors. Seating options should be low to the ground and covered with embroidered silk cushions for relaxed reclining. Textiles should be bright and made of silky or gauzy material to bring the lushness of Moroccan decorating into your home.

4. Finish with a flourish. Top off your decorating efforts with a couple of choice accents, including---of course---the key pieces you have decorated your room around. A brass vase, antique lantern or small palm tree will make an elegant, on-point addition to your Moroccan theme.
