North Carolina Art Scholarships

North Carolina may not come to mind when you think of the arts, but numerous scholarship programs help residents of all ages pursue their creativity. There are scholarships for children who want to participate in art programs or attend art-based summer camps. College students also qualify for aid.


Toe River Arts Council


The Toe River Arts Council is an organization that supports local artists and exhibits local art both traditional and contemporary. The Toe River Arts Council offers annual scholarships worth $250 to $1,000 to students who are pursuing or plan to pursue art or art education degrees. You must be a resident of Mitchell or Yancey counties to qualify. These scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university.


Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club


Ruritan is a national organization that strives to build better communities through fellowship and community service. The Bob and Lynn Bogue Art Scholarship is administered by the Brushy Mountain branch. You must be a resident of Wilkes County to apply. You'll also face an interview with the scholarship committee. The annual deadline for application is April 15 as of 2011. The scholarship is renewable as long as you remain in good academic standing.


Arts Council of Moore County


Middle and high school students in Moore County may be eligible to receive scholarship money through the Arts Council of Moore County. The organization provides funding for private art lessons or attendance at summer art camps. Barnes-Travis Arts Scholarships are awarded in varying amounts, with the typical award being $300. You must be in grades six through 12 and attending school in Moore County with at least a 2.5 GPA.


Durham Arts Council


The Durham Arts Council provides scholarship assistance to children and teens who wish to attend the DAC Summer Arts Camp. Scholarships cover up to 75 percent of your child's attendance cost. The awards are based on financial need. You must fill out an application for the scholarship and attach it to your child's camp registration form.
