North Carolina Arts Grants

Individual artist fellowships are available in North Carolina.

North Carolina boasts a vibrant arts community. The North Carolina Arts Council leads the way with grants to arts organizations and individual artist grants via the Regional Artist Grant Program. Local and county-based agencies also offer grants and participate in the RAPG.

United Arts Council

The United Arts Council co-sponsors an RAPG project that provides grants to individual artists. These competitive grants are available to artists in Johnston, Wake, Franklin, Vance and Warren counties. In 2010, the grants ranged from $1,000 to $1,500. The RAPG is supported by funding from the counties, the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Applications are available on the United Arts Council website.

North Carolina Arts Council

The North Carolina Arts Council provides grants to nonprofit organizations that have been in operation for at least two consecutive years. Arts and audiences grants from $5,000 to $15,000 are intended to help organizations broaden participation in their programs. Arts in education grants are available to enhance arts programs in the kindergarten through second grade setting, while the grassroots arts program distributes funding to local arts councils.

Grants for individual artists also are available. Fellowships of $10,000 are available in film/video, visual art, choreography and craft for creative development. Individual artist RAPG awards are made in conjunction with county arts organizations. Plus, there are three month internship grants of $5,000 in folklife and community arts administration available. Apply via Arts Grants Online on the North Carolina Arts Council website.
