Cover An Office Chair With Naugahyde

Reupholstering office chairs can usually be done quickly and easily with most simple office chair styles. With 1 to 2 yards of Naugahyde fabric, your office chair can be completely renewed. For very little money, you can change the color of your chair, add additional foam or padding and make it more comfortable. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the chair back and the chair seat of the office chair using a screwdriver. Most inexpensive office chairs use simple screws to attach the chair backs and chair seats.

2. Examine the existing upholstery on the chair back and seat. If it is a non-fabric upholstery that is worn, torn or missing foam, repair the damaged portions before recovering the back. If the chair is covered with a fabric, remove the fabric using a seam ripper before re-covering the chair with Naugahyde.

3. Place the Naugahyde face down on the table and place the seat back on top of the fabric. Cut the shape of the seat back, adding 3 to 4 inches on each side.

4. Wrap and pull the Naugahyde so that the ends of the fabric can be stapled to the back of the chair back. Staple the fabric from the top and bottom first, then the fabric from each side. Make sure the fabric is pulled just enough for a smooth finish. Work your way around the seat back, stapling every inch or so until the fabric is completely attached. Trim off any excess fabric.

5. Repeat this process for the office chair seat. Rescrew your newly upholstered chair back and seat to the chair.
