Guests will enjoy dressing up as punks.
Turning 16 is a big milestone for your son or daughter, so why not make it memorable? If your teen loves the fashion, music and punk lifestyle, use it as inspiration for a fun party. Punk is a creative style that embraces a person's individuality even though it may appear strange to others. Most teens who select this theme want a low-key party that allows them to enjoy their friends without elaborate party decorations. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Visit a secondhand shop or flea market and pick up punk clothing such as denim vests, biker jackets, flannel shirts and miniskirts. Look for items such as spiked collars, studded belts, silver bracelets and chain belts. If these items aren't available at thrift stores in your area, look for sales online at Hot Topic, Angry Young and Poor and Interpunk.
2. Visit a dollar store and look for black tableware. If your teen prefers some party decorations, buy black streamers and black tablecloths. Add some neon balloons for a touch of color. This party theme calls for a lot of attitude and nothing makes a bigger statement than black.
3. Set the mood with punk band music such as the Misfits, Sex Pistols, Ramones and Agent Orange. If the party is outdoors and in the evening, alert your neighbors.
4. Set up a punk transformation station. Designate an area with a table that has cans of hairspray, bright neon makeup, eyeliner, colored gel and colored wigs for punkers. Toss the items that you found at the secondhand shop in a large cardboard box and let your guests dress up like punks.
5. Let your guests decorate black T-shirts with fabric paint, duct tape, markers and safety pins. Set out scissors, as well. Your guests can personalize their shirts any way they like. Popular options are creating slits, cutting off the sleeves or making a tank top. A decorative punk T-shirt makes a great party favor that your guests can enjoy long after the party is over.
6. Serve a variety of inexpensive finger foods. Because many punks are health conscious, make up relish and fruit trays at home. For those who aren't as health conscious, barbecue some wings before the party and have lots of tortilla chips on hand. Don't stress too much about food, as most teens will eat practically anything they have in front of them.
