Decorate In Craftsmanstyle Decor

Craftsman-style homes typically have a low-pitched roof with a welcoming front porch.

Craftsman homes are known for their workmanship and functionality. The interior of a Craftsman home often has detailed woodwork, built-in shelves and nooks and exposed wood beams. These types of homes emphasize craftsmanship and nature. When decorating in craftsman style, think earth colors, natural woods and rich leathers. The decor is simple and refined and rooms are uncluttered in order to show off the natural beauty of the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the rooms. Paint colors often used in craftsman-style decorating are earth tones, such as browns and beiges, sage green or mustard yellow. Make sure the paint colors used throughout the home complement each other. Stay away from bright colors.

2. Add Mission-style furniture. Furniture of a typical craftsman style home is made from wood, such as oak, cherry or walnut. The designs are simple yet the craftsmanship is evident in the quality. Rich, dark leather chairs may be used in the living room or den.

3. Use simple window treatments, such as simple wood shutters or curtains from natural materials such as cotton or linen. Don't use fluffy window treatments or heavy curtains to block out the light, or curtains with bold patterns. Some craftsman homes have beautiful stained-glass windows; avoid adding window treatments that would cover them.

4. Add accessories. Craftsman-style decorating is simple and uncluttered. Therefore, keep the accessories to a minimum. If the home has wood floors, add a fluffy rug in the living room. Use stained glass or wrought iron lamps. Place nature-inspired art on the walls in thick wood frames. Place wooden clocks or handmade pottery on shelves or mantels.

5. Don't forget about the porch. Welcome your guests with big pots of colorful flowers. Hang a porch swing or have a wood rocking chair for guests to sit on, or use wicker furniture and tables.
