Find Free Furniture

Find Free Furniture

There are a couple of different ways you can go about obtaining free or very low cost furniture. For many people furnishing their home or apartment is very scary because furniture at retail price is over priced and sometimes not worth the investment. Many people cannot afford brand new furniture or furniture from retail stores because it is just too expensive. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check online sources for free stuff. There are a couple of websites that you can find free furniture and other free stuff on. The first website you should try is Craigslist.org. This site has a free section that people post on that want to give away furniture or other items. Go to www.craigslist.org and click on your state and then your city. Click on free stuff and scroll through to see if there are any furniture listings. If there is nothing in the free section, then click on the furniture section. Even if you can't find something free, you could still find something at a reasonable price to furnish your home. Another good website that you have to sign up for is Freecycle. This site has furniture and other items that people are willing to give away for free. Go to freecycle.org and sign up to become a member and then you can search your local area by joining your local freecycle yahoo group. This website may want you to donate something of your own in order to be eligible to take something that someone else is giving away though.

2. Check the local resources. Check with Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Sometimes they have furniture that people have donated to them that is inexpensive to purchase. Also, don't be ashamed to drive around and check your local area for furniture that has been put out on garbage night. Check the curbs in and around your neighborhood or anywhere you might think people are getting rid of furniture. You can also use Craigslist to see if there are any "Curb Alerts" posted, where people make it aware that they are sitting out items on the curb that they no longer want and are getting rid of. Look in your local paper at the classified ads and see if anyone is giving away furniture they no longer want. Also, watch out for any yard sales. Yard sales are a great way to pick up furniture at a low cost.

3. Check with family, friends and work associates. Ask around if anyone is getting rid of their furniture and willing to give it to you or have you pay a modest price for it. Used furniture is usually just as good, if not better, than new. If no one you know is getting rid of any furniture any time soon, ask them to keep an eye out for whatever type of furniture you want. That way, if they see something or know someone who is getting rid of something, they can grab it for you.

4. Once you've found the furniture, you will most likely have to go and pick it up. Many people who are giving away stuff for free expect you to pick it up as common courtesy. You may want to call a friend or two and have them help you move the furniture in if it is heavy and not easily carried by one person. Now you can sit back and relax and not have to worry about having a monthly payment or a huge amount charged to your credit card, just so you could have furniture. Enjoy anything that you can obtain for free in life!
