Decorate A Simple Home Library

Enjoy creating a peaceful home library.

Create a simple home library by incorporating plush furniture with a wall of books. Built-in wall bookshelves save space, but standard bookcases work in a home reading area also. A truly simple home library shouldn't take a lot of time to put together because elaborate embellishments are not necessary with this type of room. Organize your books according to type or subject. For instance, you can place all how-to books in one area and all novels on another shelf. Choose stylish decor that sets the mood for a good read within this modest space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls in a neutral or calming shade and leave the ceiling white. Shades of blue or pastel purple are calming. A neutral palette includes shades like beige, tan or peach. Allow the paint to dry for two days.

2. Arrange bookcases so that the furniture is directly up against the walls. If possible, don't place bookcases too close to the door or walking areas.

3. Place a small loveseat or cozy chair up against one of the walls within the room. Place plush pillows on the loveseat for additional comfort. Place end tables on each side of the sofa. Put a small lamp on each end table to allow for additional reading light.

4. Place two or more bean bag chairs throughout the room, so that plenty of people can read and enjoy this library at the same time.

5. Hang up framed art or photos of the family on available space throughout your library. Hang up wall clocks or other decorations if there is room.
