Types Of Cottagestyle Country Furniture

Elements of cottage-style country furniture can be found in many homes.

Cottage-style country furniture can run the gamut from bucolic to beach-inspired. It's typically made from simple materials and decorated in a similar matter. It can be recreated in inexpensive ways using repurposed and secondhand furniture, although stores also sell reproductions at retail prices---often new furniture that has been distressed. Does this Spark an idea?

Barn board tables

A rustic take on the dinner table, this style gets its influence from farmhouse décor. The table gets its name because the wood that is used for it was most often actually from a barn that was torn down, although replicas exist. The tables are usually from a lighter wood such as pine. These can also be popular for coffee tables.

Shabby chic

This is type style is often found on distressed wooden furniture. Although it can occur naturally with normal wear and tear, it is often recreated through a painting technique in which a white or cream color is painted over pastel paint, and is then sanded so that the secondary color is worn thin in some places and the base color shows through.

Rattan chairs and couches

Rattan is used as embellishment on furniture. It's generally not covering the entire chair, but is rather in sections on a wooden frame. In cottage style, these generally have light-colored cushions and even throw pillows to make them a bit softer.

Windsor chair

This chair is straight with a rounded back and is attached to the seat with multiple rounded spindles. This style is popular for stand-alone and dining chairs, and is typically wooden---finished, unfinished and painted. These usually are left bare, without cushions.
