Things For Couples To Do In Houston

From theaters and museums to ballgames and night life, Houston, Texas, has lots to offer for couples looking for a way to spend an afternoon (or two), a night out on the town, or a romantic weekend getaway.

Must-see Houston Attractions

Couples interested in a day's worth of sightseeing and culture will find all they can handle in Houston. Catch a glimpse of mission control at NASA's Space Center Houston, see 200 species of marine life at the downtown aquarium, tour the halls of the Houston Museum of Natural Science, or visit the Houston Zoo and get acquainted with over 4,500 exotic animals. The Health Museum features the Amazing Body Pavilion, and a couple can always find culture while holding hands walking through the Museum of Fine Arts. A special attraction for couples who love beer is the Beer Can House. Located at 222 Malone St., this art gallery consists of more than 50,000 beer cans! A city pass is available for all of these attractions and more, so a day or more of sightseeing won't bust a couple's budget. The pass is available for $39 per adult and can be purchased at any of the attractions, at the Houston Visitors Center at 901 Bagby St., or online at VisitHoustonTexas.com or citypass.com.

Spend the Night at the Downtown District

If culture is your taste, couples can find many options in Houston's Downtown District. This recently remade section of town offers a four-block-wide expanse of theaters, ballets, operas and centers for performing arts. The Houston Ballet, the fifth-largest ballet company in the U.S., is a must for any couple longing to see graceful dancers tip-toeing across the stage. Venues for live music, entertainment and movies round out this eclectic center for culture in downtown Houston.

Houston's Sporting Life

Had enough of cultural pursuits? Couples can enjoy the sporting life by taking in a ballgame at Minute Maid Park, home of Major League Baseball's Houston Astros. A new centerpiece surrounding the area is the Rice Lofts. "The Rice," as it is known to locals, is a center for dining, night life and shopping--and a destination before or after the game. Houston is also home to the NBA's Rockets and the NFL's Texans. College sports also abound, with the University of Houston and Rice University playing games within city limits.

Bed and Breakfast Inns In and Around Houston

Looking for a romantic weekend getaway? Houston has many bed and breakfast inns to spark the romance in your life. Located in the Montrose Museum District, the Lovett Inn is an old-style colonial home offering couples easy access to downtown, relaxing accommodations and fine dining. Just two miles from Hobby Airport and 10 minutes from downtown, Hidden Oaks Bed and Breakfast offers patrons some old-fashioned southern hospitality. Many other bed and breakfast inns are located within a day's drive of Houston, including in the beach resort of Galveston, but you'll need to do your research to determine which of these are operating at full capacity after 2008's devastating hurricane.
