Donate Clothing In San Diego

Donate your gently worn clothing to charity.

San Diego charities accept a plethora of donations, including clothing. Clothing donations are used in different ways, depending on the cause of the organization. Charities such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army sell donated clothing in their specialty stores for mere dollars. Other charities use clothing donation to give to families in need and to men and women who are in need of a decent wardrobe to enter the workforce.

Instructions

1. Locate a San Diego charity that accepts clothing donations. Charity Vault provides a complete listing of San Diego charities for those who are not familiar with local charitable organizations.

2. Confirm that your chosen charity is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization by checking them with the Internal Revenue Service's charity search database. Donations to these charities are the only ones permitted for use as a tax deduction on your federal income tax return.

3. Contact your chosen charity to schedule a donation time or to find drop-off location addresses and hours.

4. Clean your clothing thoroughly. No San Diego charity accepts dirty, stained or torn clothing donations. If it can't be worn, it can't be donated.

5. Find out the value of your donated clothing. San Diego charities are not responsible for determining the value of your donations, though they will provide you with a donation receipt to keep with your tax records.

6. Deliver your donations.
