Creative Bedroom Idea

Your bedroom is your private retreat and your bedroom decor should reflect your personality. Decorating a bedroom can be as simple as choosing the right bed covers. New bed covers and accessories can change the look of your bedroom in a matter of minutes, because the bed is the focal point of the room. If you can manage it, be bold and creative by investigating the use of fabrics and wall décor, or think about creating a theme for your bedroom, such as a beach or desert motif. Does this Spark an idea?

Outdoor Garden Motif

Turn your bedroom into your favorite garden by using floral accents. Table lamps, for example, with soft roses or other flowers on a white or beige background are subtle touches of a garden design.

Wicker chairs and tables are another addition to your garden bedroom. Wicker tables are wonderful as end tables by your bed and go perfectly with your flowered lamps. A wicker chair can stand in an empty corner. Purchase large pillows for the chair in earth tones or soft pastels. A wicker chest is just the thing for the foot of your bed and it will provide storage, too.

The use of flowers made of fabric and placed in a crystal vase on a dresser is a quaint decorative accessory for any room. A birdbath bought at a garden supply store holding a fern or perhaps a small garden gazing ball will add a beautiful garden atmosphere to your bedroom. Garden statues bring an air of sophistication to the room. Remember, subtlety should be the rule. You do not want your bedroom to look overgrown or overdone.

Window Treatments

Do not fear colors. Neutral window colors may be safe, but they are also uninteresting unless you plan on bold colors or other bold designs in the room and you want to balance the effect. Otherwise, try mixing the colors of your curtains or drapes. For example, mix a pale pink with a pale peach or do not use curtains at all.

Shutters can be a different and attractive idea for a window treatment. Shutters will give the bedroom a "country" look and serve the purpose of providing darkness if you wake up with the sun shining boldly in your face. Shutters come in almost any color you can think of so they can match any color scheme and you can purchase them in different sizes. If your window has an upper and lower pain, measure half the window and place shutters only on one half.

If you have small windows, you can give them a longer effect by purchasing curtain panels larger than the window and have the curtain drop to the floor, giving your windows a dramatic and romantic look.

Bedroom Accessories

You do not need a four-poster bed to create a canopy. One easy way to give the impression of a canopy is to install four hooks on the ceiling coinciding with the four corners of the bed and drape a long sheer curtain or curtains through the hoops. Curtains should be long enough to hit the floor.

Drape a curtain or mosquito netting behind your headboard and around the sides. A hook attached to the ceiling or suspended with a medallion or other fastening device hangs the curtain from the ceiling. This canopy will leave you with that dreamy feeling, and it is darling for a pre-teen's bedroom.

If you are not in the mood for painting, but want to decorate the wall of your bedroom, look for wall hangings. A grouping of small different sized mirrors on a wall is one way to make a small room look larger. If you have closets with sliding doors, look into finding mirrored closet doors at your favorite home decorating store.
