Choosing chairs for a round dining table requires measuring your dining table as well as deciding the style of dining chair you would like purchase. 1. Measure the diameter of your table top as well as the height from the floor to the top of the table. If your table has an apron, or overhang, measure the height from the floor to the bottom edge of the apron. Write these dimensions down.
2. Research the type of chairs you would like to purchase. Decide if you would like chairs with arms or without. Traditionally you would choose one or the other, but not a mix of both, for a round table. Consider the material you would like for your chairs, wood, metal or plastic. Chairs are also available in fully upholstered, partially upholstered or in non-upholstered styles.
3. Shop for chairs for your dining table. Bring your measurements along so you can make sure the seat height will work with your dining table. Sit in any chairs you are considering to make sure they are comfortable before you make a final decision. Think about the other materials, fabrics and colors in your home to make sure you are choosing chairs that will complement your style and color palette.
4. Measure the seat height for the dining chairs you select. A 10- to 12-inch difference between the seat height of your dining chair and the height of your dining table's top is recommended. If you have selected armchairs for your round dining table, make sure to measure from the floor to the highest point on the chairs arm. This dimension should be smaller than the height of the apron and tabletop measurement. If it is larger, the chair's arms will prevent the chair from sliding under the table.
5. Measure the length and width of the seats on the chairs you have selected. Cut cardboard or newspaper in these dimensions and place them around your dining table to calculate how many chairs you can fit around the table. Allow approximately 6 inches between each chair to avoid crowding.
