Customize Office Furniture

Office furniture has a reputation for being cold, stark and simple looking. Even some very fine pieces of office furniture that are well crafted do not have that touch of individuality. There are many things you can do to spruce up your drab office desk and chairs to make them fit with the room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Imagine how you want your furniture to look once it is finished. Plan the color palette and determine what style you will use for decorating the desk. Be sure your design will complement the space. Sketch out your look and use colored pencils, if it helps you with designing.

2. Prime your desk or chair by stripping off the old paint and sanding it or painting over it if the finish is not too glossy. Use a base coat to get your desk ready for the paint color.

3. Paint your desk or chair in the color and style of your choosing. Add texture if you want to be bold; sponge paint or stencil some designs anywhere you want. Finish your look with a coat of varnish for added protection.

4. Add a custom look to a chair by sewing a fabric cushion cover. Add details like throw pillows using the same fabric used to cover the cushion. Use a complementary fabric on the back side of the pillow so you have two different looks. Flip the pillow over for a quick change.

5. Allow any paint or varnish to dry before customizing your newly revamped desk. Use accessories to complete your look. Opt for an embellished pencil holder that goes with the decor. Use little trays and cover them in fabric to match your chair. Use anything else you need in order to create a truly custom look for the room.
