Attach An Antique Wooden Headboard To A Metal Frame

Attach an antique headboard to a metal bed frame.

Antique wooden headboards do not typically fit with a modern metal frame. The antique headboards were designed to be used with rails and a foot board. If these pieces are missing or no longer sturdy enough for use with your bed, you can attach a modern metal frame to your antique headboard. If you are hesitant to damage the legs of the headboard by drilling, consider attaching the antique piece to the wall. If you feel comfortable drilling holes in your antique, a headboard plate adapter can make the task a snap. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Line up your metal bed frame and your antique wooden headboard. Determine the location where the two should be attached for the best fit and the most stability. Mark this spot with a pencil on the wooden headboard.

2. Slide the headboard plate adapter into position and maneuver the headboard, frame and adapter until all three line up properly.

3. Attach the headboard plate adapter to the metal frame. Use a socket wrench to loosely attach the two pieces. Make sure that the nut is on the inside of the plate closest to the metal frame so it won’t interfere with the headboard. Leave some slack between the adapter and the frame.

4. Drill screws through the holes in the adapter plate into the pencil marks on your headboard. Securely attach the plate to the headboard.

5. Tighten the nuts and bolts attaching the adapter plate to the metal frame with the socket wrench.
