Art camps may focus on music, or the visual and performing arts.
North Carolina colleges and universities, county arts councils, private businesses and nonprofit organizations provide summer youth art camps throughout the state in urban centers, rural communities and coastal areas. According to the American Camp Association, youth who participate in summer camp exhibit improvements in confidence and social skills. Research conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts shows that art helps youth to become critical thinkers and better communicators. Summer art camp provides youth with opportunities for creativity and self-expression while enjoying the freedom of a relaxed camp environment.
