About Media
Cabinets
For many people, media cabinets are a must have addition to today's home. Anyone who has a collection of CDs, DVDs and/or video tapes needs to have a place to keep them all organized and a media cabinet is the thing that fills the bill. Media cabinets come in all sizes, styles and prices and people would be hard pressed not to find one that would be perfect for their needs. Does this Spark an idea?
Types
Media cabinets come in many types such as armoires, wall systems, locking cabinets, revolving cabinets, mission style cabinets, top loading and front loading cabinets and cabinets that have both options, librarian card file style, cabinets with two or four sliding glass doors and file cabinet style cabinets.
Features
Media cabinets are made in both wood and metal. The armoires are wood with two doors. They have room for a TV with media storage on the sides and underneath. Wall mounted systems are small, with two or three shelves. Locking media cabinets have a large storage capacity and are made of wood, with a center storage space and space in the two doors. Revolving cabinets have four sides with open storage. Mission style cabinets have two narrow doors either in wood or glass. The combination top and front loading also lock. The librarian style comes two ways. First, there is one with six rows of four drawers each and the second has six rows with two drawers each and two glass doors on the left.
Size
Sizes can vary a bit from one manufacturer to another, but this will give you a good approximation of what you will find. Armoires are about 63" wide x 24.5" deep x 69.5" high. The library style is about 39 1/2"h x 27 1/8"w x 9 3/8"d. Locking style cabinets range in size from about 35¼"h x 15¾"d x 47¼"w for a model that can also be used as a TV stand to about 64"h x 23¾"w x 15"d. Revolving cabinets measure about 64"h x 24"d x 24"w. Mission style measures about 40"h x 23¼"w x 13"d. The top loading, front loading and combination types measure about 7¼"h x 13"d x 48½"w The librarian style measures 39 1/2"h x 27 1/8"w x 9 3/8
Considerations
You need to take into consideration the type and amount of media you need to store as well as the style. Units can take up a small area, but still have a large storage capacity because of the way they fold up. Don't forget to measure for the depth as well as the height and width.
Benefits
The greatest benefit you would get from a media cabinet is the ability to keep all of your media--CDs, DVDs and video tapes--all in one place and safe from being damaged. There is such a variety available that each member of the family can choose a small one for their own personal collections in addition to or instead if a big one in the family room.
