Throw A Second Birthday Party

Your child will love bubbles at her party.

When planning a party for a 2-year-old, think about his temperament. If he's very clingy and wants you by his side, then it's best to throw a small party with a few close relatives. But if your child loves the attention of other people and loves to socialize, then throw a party with a few of his peers and some parents. Regardless of the party, your child is sure to feel special when he's surrounded by those that love him. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Plan a morning or lunch party because kids at this age still need to nap in the afternoons. An hour or hour and a half is a good length.

2. Choose a theme for the party and purchase invitations, paper goods, cake and decorations that match this theme. Choose a theme based on the things your little one likes. Popular party themes include a favorite cartoon character or storybook, farm animals, a favorite color or a shape.

3. Pick finger foods that are easy to handle for your party menu. Serve foods such as miniature pizzas, mini bagels with cream cheese or bite-sized sausage rolls. Use cookie cutters (star, animal, or heart shapes) to create bite-sized sandwiches. Fresh fruit in bright colors such as melon, pineapple and strawberries can grab the attention of little ones. Serve cupcakes that match your theme colors for dessert. Give little ones pouched juices to minimize spills.

4. Set out a large bowl of guacamole or cheese dip with chips and fruit punch or soda for adults. Alternatively, serve tea or coffee with a slice of apple pie, fruit tart or cheese cake.

5. Let your guests enjoy themselves. Toddlers don't usually cooperate in organized games, so it's best to offer things with which they can play. Small bottles of bubbles with bubble wands will be fun for guests. Kids will also enjoy playing with play dough. Alternatively, have a box of dress-up clothes with which kids can play. Kids will also like making a lot of noise with party blowers.

6. Send guests home with a small stuffed animal and some stickers that correlate with your theme. Other choices include small plastic toys, little rubber balls, bracelets or necklaces, plastic sunglasses or pinwheels.
