Build A Dining Wood Chair

Wood chairs make excellent seating for any dining area.

Wooden chairs are an exceptional seating option for dining rooms. Dining chairs can be customized to your preference, allowing the chair to match any wood, metal, or glass table beautifully. Building a dining chair is a task that requires accurate measuring in order to achieve the ideal product. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure a mark 2 inches toward the center from each corner on the 18x20 section of 3/4-inch plywood. These marks will indicate the point at which each baluster will be placed for chair legs.

2. Flip the piece of 18x20 plywood over so the leg marks are on the bottom side of the plywood. Measure and mark 1 inch from the 18-inch edge to create a 1x18 inch working area to install the back section of the chair.

3. Measure and mark every 2 inches along the top of the plywood, along the 1-inch guideline on the 18-inch edges. These marks will be the placement location for the back dowel rods.

4. Measure and mark every 2 inches along the center of the 3/4-inch edge of the plywood that measures 3x18. This section is used to cap off the dowel rods and form a strong hold for the back of the chair.

5. Drill down one-quarter-inch, using the 3/4-inch drill bit at each of the 2-inch marks along the top edge, creating nine marks total. Repeat the drilling process on the marks drawn onto the 3x18 section of plywood to create an impressed grid where the dowels will be placed.

6. Apply a drop of wood glue into each of the drilled holes on the 18x20 base and insert the 3/4-inch thick dowel rods into each location. Apply an additional drop of wood glue to the top of each of the nine dowels, and press on the 3x18 section of wood. Allow wood glue to dry before continuing, to avoid dowels falling out of place.

7. Drive one nail through the top of the 3x18 section of wood to go through each dowel rod. Drive one additional nail through each dowel rods bottom at the 18x20 section of plywood. This will solidify the back dowels to the base of the chair.

8. Turn the chair base on its side, resting the top of the chair back along the ground as well as the front 18-inch edge of the chair base. Apply wood glue at each of the four marked location along the bottom. Press one 18-inch baluster at each location and drive two nails through the top of each to bond the legs to the chair base.
