Decorate The Side Of A Table

One panel of art attached to this side table can transform this room.

You may want to decorate the side of a table if the wood is distressed and you can't repair it, you don't like the color or you need to hide items under the table and the easiest way to accomplish this goal is by covering at least one side. Regardless of your mission, tap the right side of your brain to solve your creative challenge and as a bonus, you'll wind up with a decorative feature that livens up the room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Sew one or more skirt panels to decorate the side of the table. Measure the space requiring the camouflage. Purchase enough fabric to cover the area in question plus extra for hems. Use your sewing machine to sew the skirt panel. When you finish, it should resemble an unpleated curtain panel. Drape the panel over the top and side, and use a couple of Velcro tabs to anchor it.

2. Decorate a table side with a piece of art. Measure the space to figure out how much surface you need to cover and then find or create an original painting or drawing. Frame the art in a lightweight plastic sheath (such as a poster frame). Install a small hook or heavy-duty mounting tape along the edge of the tabletop and "hang" the art, allowing it to float or sit on the floor.

3. Wallpaper one side of a table for a fast, inexpensive change up. Measure the dimensions of the table side facing into the room. Purchase a piece of drywall meeting those specifications and apply the panel of wallpaper to the drywall with wallpaper paste. Push out bubbles and allow the paper to dry before mounting the panel to the side of the table with heavy-duty double-sided tape or Velcro.

4. Mirror one side of the table. Look for a framed mirror that matches the size of the area you want to cover. Alternately, purchase mirror tiles, cut one or more down to size and mount them on the legs with double-sided tape or Velcro. Add additional interest to the table side by choosing smoky, beveled or veined mirror tiles.

5. Make an instant panel for the side of your table from a piece of Sheetrock and a king-size pillowcase. Dig up a single pillowcase from the clearance rack of your favorite discount emporium and cut a piece of Sheetrock to size so it can slide into the pillowcase. Hand-stitch the pillowcase closed or use cloth Velcro tabs so you can wash the pillowcase. Decorate any way you like before mounting the panel with Velcro or double-sided tape.
