Clean Stickley Furniture Mold
Gustav Stickley, an architect and the leading spokesperson for the American Craftsman movement, began designing and building furniture in 1904. His furniture was all handmade and incorporated the use of copper and wooden pegs instead of nails. His concepts were simple and founded on the basic principles of architecture and nature working in harmony to create something beautiful; mold, however, is not something beautiful. If mold finds its way to your elegantly hand crafted furniture, removing it is a simple task that's well worth the effort. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Use a clean cloth or soft bristle brush to scrape away as much of the mold as possible without scratching your Stickley furniture. Make sure there is a drop cloth or newspaper underneath or do this outside to keep the mold spores from spreading through the house.
2. Mix a solution of one part bleach to five parts water.
3. Use a soft clean cloth dipped in the solution and wrung out well to scrub the furniture free of any residual mold.
4. Dry the area well with a soft clean dry cloth.
5. Set the furniture outside in the sunlight for an hour or so. Be careful not to leave it out too long and discolor the wood. Sunlight is great for killing mold spores that you may not even be able to see.
