Recycling For Families In Bloomington Illinois

Recycling for Families provides basic home furnishings for families in need.

The Recycling Furniture for Families program in Bloomington, Illinois, works with local agencies to supply families in need with basic household goods. RFF is a Christian ministry and non-profit. The program collects items from the community and dispenses them to families at no cost. The program's mission is to share Christ's love as they support families in need toward self-sufficiency.

Service Recipients

RFF has relationships with McLean County social services organizations and churches that work with families in need. Current clients of these organizations and churches are referred to RFF. Clients fall into at least one of these categories: leaving homelessness, domestic violence and those living at or below the federal poverty line.

Become a Recipient of Services

RFF services are provided on a referral basis. Local social service agencies and churches in McLean county can refer current clients to RFF. Current clients can also request a referral from their caseworker for RFF. Qualified referrals will receive information from RFF concerning information on what to expect from RFF and a client agreement. RFF will then schedule and interview with the client, and the client can select furniture for their home. RFF will deliver the furniture or the client can pick it up.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for office work, cleaning, intake, working in the warehouse, delivering furniture, assisting deliveries, repairing furniture and truck maintenance. Office work involves filing, data entry and mailings. Cleaning volunteers are responsible for cleaning the office weekly. Intake volunteer responsibilities include conducting interviews, assisting with furniture selection and scheduling deliveries. In the warehouse, volunteers load trucks, restock furniture, linens and kitchen items. Oiling hinges, cleaning upholstery, assembling and reassembling furniture are examples of tasks for furniture repair volunteers. Truck drivers and delivery assistants must be able to move and lift furniture. Additionally, truck drivers must have a good driving record and valid driver's license. Truck maintenance volunteers are on an as-needed basis to keep trucks in working condition. Volunteers must fill out an application that is available on the RFF website. Volunteers can include their availability and area of interest on the application.

Donations

RFF accepts financial and furniture donations from the community. Furniture can be dropped off at the organization's warehouse or picked up by volunteers. RFF is interested in furniture that is not soiled, torn or broken. Additionally, RFF does not accept large appliances, clothing, toys, games, luggage, lawn furniture, formal dinnerware, typewriters, exercise equipment, bikes or Christmas decorations. RFF does need kitchen items, tables, mattresses, box springs, headboards, bed frames, small appliances, dressers, night tables, coffee tables, couches and cribs with mattresses.
