Diy Miniature Furniture

Miniature chair typical of dollhouse furniture.

Miniature furniture, typically intended for a dollhouse, can range from simple cardboard to intricately crafted mahogany wood. For a child, almost anything can represent something else, so even common materials can become pieces of furniture. Try a few tips and ideas to make crafting doll furniture easier.

Instructions

1. Remove the lid of a jewelry box that is large enough for a doll bed. Cut foam or quilt batting to make a mattress to fit inside the box. Cover the mattress with fabric scraps. Make little pillows by sewing small rectangles together, stuffing them with batting and sewing along the edges with a needle and thread.

2. Paint a wire spool to create a pedestal table. Select smaller thread spools as stools. Use a child safe acrylic paint so that they coordinate. Make small stool pillows out of cosmetic puffs. Glue the pillows to the top of the stools.

3. Bend thick wire in a spiral to make a chair seat. Add curved legs by shaping the front legs on one piece of wire that you bend in half and twist for strength. Twist and glue the wire to the front of the spiral seat. Make the back legs and seat back frame from one larger piece of wire that you bend in half and twist. Attach it by twisting and gluing. Add pieces of wire for the seat back design.

4. Download plans for simple wood and cardboard furniture. Cut out the pieces as directed in the plans and glue the ends together. There are plans for cardboard living room furniture, outdoor beach furniture in wood, mission style furniture and modern pieces. Decorate your furniture with paint, glued fabrics, contact paper that looks like wood, beads and other trims.
