Diy For Db2 Tv Antennas

Field of HDTV dreams

The DB2 TV antenna and its analogs DB4 and DB8 (doublet and quad of DB2) are considered better "general use" designs for pulling in HDTV signals. Commercial DB2s are available for around $40. The DIY DB2 referenced here is constructed for a lot less. The finished product is only a board with wires and screws. One builder calls it "ugly" and offers a mission style modification (see References).

Building Your Own Basic DB2 TV Antenna(s)

Gather the needed parts from your spare parts box or local hardware store. You will need a two-foot, one-by-three-inch wooden board, screws and washers, 15 feet of wire, a reflector grid and a balun with a coax cable plug on one side and two wires with screw holes on the other (buy at local dollar store for 30 cents). For tools, you will need a drill, screwdriver, wire cutter and pliers. Refer to reference for step-by-step instructions and in several simple steps you will have a fully operational DB2 TV antenna. You may wish to build another and increase your antenna gain with a DB4, doublet, or two more again for a DB8, a quad array. It depends on your location from the transmitters. If you start with the basic unit inside, in the attic, and outside later, you will be able to compare the increases in signal strength with the various configurations.

The DB2 TV Mission Style Furniture

If you are satisfied with an antenna that is out of site in your attic or hangs on a boom 50 feet above your rooftop, then this extra step is not necessary. Please look at the construction changes (see References) and how the author like all good artists attempts to take obvious defects and mold them into a thing of beauty and style. You can have good reception and a new decor all for a few dollars and your time and effort to create a modern antenna system.

Decorate A 1940s Bedroom

Chandelier

Step back in time and create a luxurious getaway within your own home as you decorate your bedroom in the glamorous style of the 1940s. Vibrant wall colors, tufted bedroom furniture, mirrored side tables and crystal lighting transform any bedroom into a stylish retro-glam retreat. You can find furnishings online and at your local antique store to complete the '40s look, or make a few pieces yourself with silver leaf and mirrors. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1940s Decorating Ideas

1. Paint the walls in your 1940s bedroom any vibrant color that you enjoy. Fuchsia, burgundy or navy blue provide a beautiful contrast with the white upholstered furnishings and the crystal chandelier. Tape the walls with painter's tape and paint large stripes in different shades of your chosen color as an additional decorative touch.

2. Find a white upholstered headboard with tufted with buttons and a matching full-length bench for the end of your bed. An arched headboard and scalloped or curved sides on your bench work best with '40s-style glam designs. Bedside tables with mirrored tops and silver leaf facing balances the deep richness of the walls with the white headboard.

3. Select crisp animal print or solid color linens to offset the wall colors and full-length sheer white curtains to cover the windows. Add a mirrored dressing table complete with a skirt that matches your bed linens and a tufted bench seat.

4. Create an additional seating vignette beneath a window with white upholstered chairs and a silver-leaf table. Hang a crystal chandelier and add chandelier style lamps to your bedside tables to further enhance your 1940s décor.

Apply Silver Leaf & Mirrors

5. Sand and prime the surface of the tables to be gilded using a primer especially formulated for silver leaf. You can find all of the materials for this project at your local craft store. Let the primer dry completely.

6. Apply a water-based size to the primed surface. Size is the name for the adhesive especially designed for any type of gilding process. Follow the manufacturer's instructions as to the application and tack times of the size. Test your size to make sure that it is not wet, but tacky. This will occur just before it dries, so read the size instructions for approximate tack times.

7. Carefully lay the silver leaf onto the tacky surface with the transfer paper facing you. Gently apply the leaf to the table with a gilder's brush, and then remove the protective transfer paper. Continue until the front of your table is covered.

8. Add mirror tiles to the top of your table with mirror adhesive. Apply the adhesive and press the mirror tiles onto the surface. Cover the top completely.

Fastgrowing Shadeloving Vines In Zone 5

Virginia creeper turns red in autumn

Vines help create a feeling of intimacy and calm when used as a backdrop in a shade garden. They also provide privacy or hide unsightly views. Famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright once quipped, "A doctor can bury his mistakes, but an architect can only advise his clients to plant vines." Several vines thrive in a U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zone 5 where winter temperatures drop to between minus 10 and minus 20 degrees F. Does this Spark an idea?

Climbing Methods

Vines grow by using tendrils, twining or clinging. Tendrils are small shoots growing from the vine reaching out and wrapping themselves around any nearby support. Examples are clematis, perennial sweet pea and grapes. Twining vines climb by winding their stems around any available support. Dutchman's pipe, bittersweet and honeysuckle are in this category. Clinging vines, such as Virginia creeper and climbing hydrangea, attach themselves to surfaces with small aerial rootlets that burrow into crevices.

Annual vs. Perennial Vines

In the world of vines, fast growing often means invasive, as many perennial vines leave their designated spot and venture into lawns, gardens and beyond. If control is an issue, then it is best to plant annual vines that grow quickly but which succumb to winter's chill. Black-eyed Susan vine, canary creeper, morning glory and climbing nasturtium all grow and flower in partial shade of three to six hours of sun a day.

Part Shade Perennial Vines

Part shade offers sufficient light for many flowering perennial vines. The queen of them all is Clematis. "The President" cultivar boasts large blue-mauve flowers, while "Bees Jubilee" offers striped pink flowers and "Comptess de Bouchard" displays pale pink flowers. The honeysuckle Lonicera x brownii "Dropmore Scarlet" and "Goldflame" are common performers, as is Hydrangea anomala petiolaris, a climbing hydrangea which, although sometimes slow to start, eventually puts out vigorous growth with abundant flower clusters.

Perennial Vines for Less than 3 Hours of Sun

Virginia creeper Parthenocissus quinquefolia sprawls easily along fences, has foliage that turns red in autumn, and blue-black fruit that attracts birds. Engleman's ivy Englemanii "Star Showers" is a related species with variegated leaves. For an outstanding wall cover, choose Boston ivy Parthenocissus tricuspidata "Veitchii." Its dark-green leaves turn orange-scarlet in autumn. The ornamental kiwi Actinidia kolomikta leaves are half green and half pink-and-white. Dutchman's pipe Aristolochia durior is an old-fashioned favorite growing up to 30 feet a year, but its unpleasant scent requires distant planting.

Get Free Office Equipment For Nonprofit Organizations

Build your office with free furniture and equipment.

Non-profit organizations aid community development. The difference between a traditional for-profit business and a non-profit enterprise is that the former is principally concerned with making money. A non-profit organization is created to solely serve a community need. Finding free office equipment for a non-profit organization is often critical to getting the enterprise going. Follow a few simple steps to broaden your horizons and opportunities to access office equipment at no cost.

Instructions

1. Contact your city or county administration office. Inquire with a clerk or representative about scheduled office furniture and/or equipment drives. Find out dates, times and locations of these activities. Ask about quantity limits, if you need to provide your own transportation to move or haul materials. Arrive to the donation drive early and bring a non-profit partner or two to help you load as much free equipment as possible.

2. File for a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by visiting the IRS website. Type in "Tax Information for Charities & Other Non-Profits" in the text box at the top of the page. Click on the "Search" tab. Follow links and instructions to complete the application process.

3. Place an advertisement with your local newspaper or radio station. State the mission and purpose of the non-profit and emphasize your need for donated office equipment. Clarify what equipment you most need and when and where to bring donations. Schedule an interview -- in conjunction with your advertisement -- announcing the opening of your non-profit and office equipment needs. Mention your 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, which allows donors to write off contributions during their upcoming tax filing.

4. Contact a charity committed to giving away free and donated furniture. Contact Help1Up (National Furniture Bank) or Freecycle, for example, and inquire about their free furniture giveaway programs and associations with like-minded grassroots organizations. Research online listings on Craigslist, or other classified ad forums, and search for free office equipment offerings.

Make A Courtyard

A courtyard provides a space for intimate conversation while pleasing the eye.

By definition, a courtyard is an open space. Often a courtyard is surrounded by walls or buildings. At religious institutions, a courtyard contains walkways that are covered and is referred to as a cloister. A courtyard can be a common place, or it can be a place of solitude. The approach to creating your own courtyard is moderately easy. The result, with some planning and ingenuity, is a courtyard that is both welcoming and peaceful. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose the location and function of the courtyard. A multifunctional space offers opportunities to use the space much more than if you choose a specific use. Using a measuring tape, measure a space that you feel provides an adequate area for plantings, seating and water features.

2. Determine the type of walkways for your courtyard. Brick, cobblestone and cement paving stones are common choices that add to the ambiance of a courtyard. Measure, and then mark with stakes where the courtyard and its walkways will be located to determine the amount of brick, cobblestone or pavers you need. Install the materials or hire a professional to do it for you.

3. Designate a portion of space for a seating area. Furnish with table and chairs or a simple bench. You may wish to provide seating in different areas of the courtyard or one specific space for seating. Providing seating encourages visitors to sit and enjoy the serenity of the space.

4. Add plants. If buildings do not surround your area, use shrubbery to create an enclosed space. Plant a tree to provide shade. Once you have completed your boundary plantings, add color to the space using potted flowering plants and in-ground plantings.

5. Add a statue to the space to create visual interest. Add a water feature to provide a soothing sound for your visitors. A water feature can be especially helpful if your courtyard is located near a busy street as it can diminish the sounds of passing traffic.

Home Audio Speaker Repair

Home Audio Speaker Repair

Home audio speakers have parts that sometimes wear out. Often, such parts can be easily replaced or repaired, making the speaker again as good as new. Never be intimidated by a damaged speaker, unless the repairs are so extensive that they render any effort worthless. Many speakers of significant worth are left out with the trash that may merely need a new woofer surround costing 20 to 25 dollars.

Fixing the Woofer

The woofer is the biggest speaker in a cabinet, deliver the lowest frequencies. It is most often 8-12" inches in diameter. On occasion, the cone of this speaker is torn; more frequently, the surround that encircles the cone is dried out or cracked.

The woofer cone can be easily fixed with a dab of glue and some paper of approximate thickness to the cone. Generally, apply the repair paper to the back of the cone.

To fix the surround, contact simplyspeakers.com or parts-express.com for replacement surround kits. These kits come with glue, cotton swabs, and new foam or rubber surrounds.

With either or both of these repairs, a woofer can be inexpensively restored.

Fixing the Tweeter

On occasion, a tweeter can burn out or freeze. Tweeters are generally 1 to 1 1/2-inch speakers at the top of a speaker cabinet. When tweeters go out, the overall speaker sound is dull, and no high frequencies emanate from the speaker. The easiest fix is often found on eBay. Tweeters can be found as separate components that match the one needing replacement. Costs can be as little as $35 for a component that otherwise retails for $175. Simply unscrew the old tweeter, remove the speaker wires attached to it, and connect and reinstall the new tweeter.

Fixing the Mid-Range

In a 3-way speaker configuration, the mid-range speaker handles the bulk of audio information that our ears perceive as sound...voices and most instruments. Mid-range speakers range from 3 to 5-inches in diameter, and are aligned between the tweeter and woofer, or slightly to one side of the tweeter.

When a mid-range speaker fails, a pronounced hollowness is heard. Replacing the mid-range, because of its compact size, is similar to replacing the tweeter. Use eBay to find the exact component duplicate; then check local electronics specialty stores as there are often an array of separate speakers on their shelves.

Replacing Crossovers

Crossovers are employed in any speaker cabinet that has more than one loudspeaker component to separate the input signal into different frequency ranges suited to each driver. The drivers then receive only the power in their usable frequency range, reducing distortion and interference.

Crossovers can be passive or active. Passive crossovers-electronic circuits that uses a combination of one or more resistors, inductors, or non-polar capacitors-are generally used within a speaker. In three-way or four-way speakers, more than one crossover is employed.

Crossovers can be self-made, but it is often easier to simply replace them, as several websites offer them, and building one is somewhat complicated. Parts-express.com and madisound.com are two excellent sources for finding necessary crossovers and other components.

Take a Second Look Before You Toss the Old Speaker

A good quality speaker is like a piece of fine furniture. The parts that make up the speaker are of very high quality. With a little investigating, all individual speaker components can often be replaced, saving significantly over buying new speakers to replace the old inoperative ones.

Style Your Bookcase

A bookcase can hold much more than just books.

Architecturally, a bookcase adds depth and visual interest to the room. Practically speaking, a bookcase adds storage and organizational space. Emotionally, there is something denlike and cozy about a solid bookcase. The decorating trick becomes style it to make the most out of its architectural, practical and emotional qualities. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a pattern with your items. One decorator trick is zigzagging items down the shelves. Don't allow them to line up like tin soldiers or to look boring. Give your books and accessories life by creating "movement" in how you place them in the bookcase.

2. Mix things up. Allow some books to stand vertically and stack some horizontally. You can line a group of books together vertically, then use three or four books stacked on top of one another as bookends to hold the vertical books in place. Display books like pieces of art. Consider whether you want the tallest volume in the middle or on an end. Consider grouping books by author, subject or even color to make the display more interesting.

3. Group like items together. Don't mix paperbacks with hardcover books, but separate them for a neater look. If you want to use part of the bookcase to display a collection, keep the collection together or in small groups. For instance, if you collect delicate Japanese vases, delegate an area of the bookcase to the vases alone. Grouping similar items together makes a greater decorative statement.

4. Leave room between displays. As tempting as it can be to display everything you have at once, stop introducing items to the bookcase once you are no longer able to leave several inches between each display. The blank spaces make it obvious that you have deliberately designed the bookshelf decor and makes the entire bookshelf look better organized.

5. Skip small items. You may love your collection of antique thimbles, but they're difficult to see unless someone is standing right over them. They're also just one more group of things you're going to have to dust. Opt instead for items that have a little heft. To determine if an item or group of items is adding to the decorative element of your bookcase, stand across the room. If you can clearly see the item or items, they are appropriate for the space.

6. Introduce texture. An old lamp with a woven lampshade, leather-bound books you found in an estate sale or a picture frame made of pebbles are all good ways to add visual interest through texture.

7. Get rid of symmetry. The bookcase will be far more interesting looking if you don't worry about one side being even with the other. You can have more books on the left than right or a larger collection on the right side than on the left. Resist the temptation to even everything out.

About Metal Vanity Tables

Modern vanity tables come in sleek metal designs with adjustable shelving and mirrors, making the vanity customizable to the needs of the user. Available in a wide range of colors (although black and white are most common), metal vanity tables fit with any decor and add an air of sophistication to dressing rooms and bedrooms. Does this Spark an idea?

History

Throughout history, vanity tables have reflected the lifestyle of the user and the craftsmanship of the era. Elaborate vanity tables with intricate detailing marked the Victorian era. Early American designs featured a heavy mahogany base with curved cabriole legs. Other designs featured a rich walnut base with claw feet.

During the 1900s, mission-oak bases with straight lines became popular. Hollywood vanities rose in popularity during the 1920s. These vanities, covered in veneer, came in variety of styles. Bird's-eye maple, oriental wood and zebra-wood designs gained popularity. The 1930s brought the appearance of waterfall furniture that featured rounded edges and large round mirrors. Art Moderne metal dressing tables, designed in wood grain that mimicked the look of wood, experienced brief popularity.

By the 1940s and 1950s, vanities made from hardwood featured a simpler design with the addition of a center drawer and smaller drawers down the side.

Identification

Modern metal vanities, available in a variety of styles, feature scrolled or ornate metal. Shelves may be glass supported by metal, like wrought iron, or simply an open metal shelf. Metal benches with ornamental features complement the design. Metal vanity tables appeal to the desire for sleek, easy-to-care-for designs that create an airy atmosphere while retaining a touch of elegance.

Function

These distinctive tables reflect the busy lifestyle of modern women. Adjustable mirror mounts or shelving provide the user with the ability to customize the table to fit her needs. The clean, airy look provides a striking background for vintage bottles and containers displayed on shelves.

Features

As a rule, metal vanity tables are lighter, easier to move and easier to care for than wooden vanities. Made from wrought iron, aluminum, pewter or painted metal, designs range from simple straight lines to elaborate scrolls. Benches with fabric cushions come in a variety of styles and colors to meet a wide variety of decorating needs.

Potential

Metal vanity tables are ideal for children's rooms, as they are durable, resist stains and scratches, and do not require the care that wood demands.

Buy A Table Lamp

Table lamps should satisfy lighting requirements as well as complement decor. Here are some ways to make sure your lamp measures up. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a lamp of an appropriate size. On a petite nesting table or narrow console, a candlestick lamp may be best. A roomy end table or bombe chest can accommodate a more bulky ginger jar.

2. Consider the lamp's style. A high-tech swing-arm lamp will look out of place on a carved Victorian table, while a faceted crystal-and-shiny-brass table lamp is likely to be jarring on a Shaker or Mission night stand.

3. Take measurements to be sure the lamp will be tall enough to cast its light over your shoulder, especially from a chair-side table. The bottom of the shade should be about even with your cheekbone when you're sitting on the chair, and the light's beam should fall on the page if you're reading.

4. Find out what the lamp's maximum wattage is. A reading lamp should offer 150 or more watts.

5. Check that the bottom edge of the shade hides the lamp's bulb socket when the lamp is viewed from a few feet away. This will make the lamp more attractive as well as reduce the potential for glare.

6. Examine the shade to see whether it suits your needs. A white or off-white fabric shade usually provides a translucent quality and high light output. A darker or opaque shade will limit the light output, which is suitable in entryways.

7. Ask store personnel whether you can swap the shade to satisfy your functional needs.

8. Make sure you can bring the lamp back for a full refund, especially if you find that it's too tall, too chunky, too bright or too dark.

9. Take the lamp home and test it. If you are able to see the lamp's bulb when sitting down, adjust the shade to reduce glare.

Match Furniture With A Discontinued Line

Once you own furniture pieces from a certain line of furniture, it can be disheartening to find that brand or line of furniture has been discontinued if you want to add to your set. However, there are ways to find furniture pieces and make them appear to match your existing set, even if they are not from the same line of furniture you already own. Simply do your research, be vigilant about finding the right style of furniture, and you can have a beautiful and coordinated home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Contact the manufacturer. Even if the furniture line has been discontinued, it is possible that it will be available for purchase either directly from the manufacturer or from furniture outlets or catalogs. This is always a good first step to see if you can find that missing piece to complete your collection.

2. Try to match stain and style on new pieces with your existing pieces. The most important components that determine whether furniture matches are the color or stain of the furniture and the general style. If your furniture is French country, for example, you should be able to find other French country pieces from different lines that have the same general shapes and styles. You can match stain by bringing a drawer from a dresser with you when you shop, or by finding out exactly what stain was used on your furniture. Cherry wood will always look similar to other cherry wood, for example, especially if you don't have the pieces right next to each other.

3. Adjust little details. If you can't find a matching dresser for the existing pieces in your bedroom but you find one that is close, you may be able to make it appear to match by switching the drawer pulls to match the drawer pulls on your existing pieces. Hardware like this can be purchased at any hardware store and drawer knobs can easily be unscrewed and switched out with a screwdriver. By making sure these details all match, you will be able to create the illusion that everything is part of one single matched set.

Simulate A Mission Finish On Furniture

You'll need to sand furniture repeatedly between coats when applying this finish.

According to Jeff Jewitt of the website Wood Central, a mission finish refers to a process where craftsmen expose the wood furniture to very powerful ammonia fumes in an airtight room. This type of finish shaded softer woods and created a more uniform tone throughout the wood. Luckily you don't need to use ammonia fumes to recreate this style of finish. A more modern method allows you to create this type of coloring and even tone while highlighting the grain of the wood. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rub 150 grit sandpaper across the surface area of the wood furniture. Fill a spray bottle with distilled water and spray the furniture evenly to help raise the grain. Rub 180 grit sandpaper all over the surface of the wood.

2. Blast the exterior of the furniture with a can of compressed air. Apply a light or dark mission style stain to the furniture with a 3 inch nylon brush to give the furniture a distinctive undertone. Let the stain soak into the wood and then wipe up the excess pigment with a very soft cloth. Allow it to dry for eight hours. Sand it with 320 grit sandpaper. Wash off your nylon brush.

3. Apply a coat of 2-lb. cut colored shellac with your nylon brush. Select any color of shellac you want. Allow the shellac to dry completely and then sand it with 320 grit paper. Then apply a second coat, letting it dry completely. Run a vacuum across the surface of the furniture to suck up any dust.

4. Mix 1 cup of brown glaze with 1/2 cup black glaze in a small pan. Apply it lightly to the furniture, going in the direction of the grain. Blot up the excess glaze with a cloth. Allow the glaze to dry for at least 12 hours.

5. Spray a finishing coat of uncolored shellac over the glaze. Allow it to dry for a full 24 hours. Dip a wad of 0000 steel wool into a paste wax and coat the furniture with a light layer of wax. Buff it to a shine.

Getting Pine To Look Like A Cherry Cabinet

There's no reason you can't get this pine shelf to look like cherry.

Pine is a common wood for furniture and interior fixtures. Generally, it's a soft wood with a uniform grain texture and a naturally smooth finish. Pine is so suitable for inside the home because it holds its shape exceptionally well. It's not given to warping, swelling, shrinking, checking or splitting. Most varieties of pine come in deep cream and light yellow shades, although there's no reason you can't stain them to look like cherry wood, if you approach the task strategically. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Attach a piece of 80-grit sandpaper to the bottom of an electric sander. Run the sander across the surface of pine. Also focus on smoothing out any knots in the pine. Repeat with 200-grit sandpaper and a 300-grit piece of sandpaper.

2. Wipe off the pine with a tack cloth. Tape down the back of the knots and gaps in the pine. Pour some light-colored epoxy onto a paper plate. Dip a paintbrush into the epoxy and swab it lightly over the knots or gaps in the pine. Allow the epoxy to dry and remove the tape.

3. Mix 2 cups raw linseed oil and 2 cups turpentine in a bucket with a paint stirrer. Dip a 3-inch wide nylon brush into the linseed oil and turpentine and wipe down the pine wood. Allow it to soak in and wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth.

4. Dip a foam brush in cherry colored oil-based stain. Cover the pine wood with a generous coat. Allow it soak in for 10 to 15 minutes and wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth. Allow it to dry overnight.

5. Press a piece of 500-grit sandpaper onto the bottom of an electric sander. Run the sander across the surface area of the pine. Wipe it down with a tack cloth.

6. Dip a foam brush into the oil-based cherry stain and apply a generous coat. Allow it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes and wipe off the excess with a lint-free cloth.

7. Dip a fresh 3-inch-wide paint brush into tinted cherry colored shellac. This will finish the wood and help even out the appearance of any blotchy spots. Allow it to dry overnight.

Sand An Oak Table

When the finish on your oak table begins to crack or fade, or your table is unfinished and you want to give it a new look, the first thing you should do is sand the table. Sanding cleans up the work surface to give it a fresh, polished look after refinishing. Sanding also removes surface imperfections and transforms your table-keeping it beautiful for years. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Wash the table thoroughly with a soft cloth and water to remove any dirt and debris. Starting with a clean surface will help produce a smoother result.

2. Load 150-grit sandpaper on a sanding block. Sand the flat surfaces evenly, in the direction of the wood grain. Sand uneven areas by hand-such as table legs-to ensure thorough coverage. Replace the sheet of sandpaper when it begins to wear.

3. Wash the surface with distilled water after the first stage of sanding is complete. Make sure the sanding is even across the entire surface. Dry the table with a clean, soft cloth. Allow the wood to air dry thoroughly for a few hours.

4. Load the sanding block with 180-grit sandpaper. Again, sand the entire flat surface evenly, in the direction of the wood grain. Replace the sandpaper sheet when it's worn. Sand the legs and uneven areas by hand with 180-grit sandpaper. Continue sanding until the finish is even.

5. Clean the dust from the table with compressed air. Blow the entire table surface clean, then wipe it down with a tack cloth to remove any remaining dust or debris. Finish the table as desired.

Ideas For Pool Designs

A rectangular pool offers plenty of surface area for a deck or patio.

When installing a backyard pool, homeowners often want an unusual, eye-catching design that stands out amidst the rest of their landscape. Depending on the style that you prefer, there are several options that can make a statement in your yard. If you are having trouble choosing a design for your home, examine the way in which you plan to use your pool, and you will likely find an option that best meets your specific needs. Does this Spark an idea?

Rectangular Pool

For a traditional pool design, a rectangular shape may be the best fit. This type of pool works well in a large backyard and provides significant surface area for use as a patio or deck. A rectangular pool is also the ideal option if you plan to swim laps or use your pool for water volleyball or basketball games. Because of its wide open space, a rectangular pool is suited for many activities and usually has enough room to be fitted with accessories, such as a diving board or slide.

L-Shaped Pool

If you want a standard rectangular pool but cannot fit one in your backyard, an L-shaped pool is an ideal alternative. It is actually a variation on the rectangular pool, featuring two smaller rectangular sections that form a 90 degree angle. As a result, it may be placed in a corner so a portion of it spans your side yard while the other section lies in the backyard. Like a rectangular pool, L-shaped pools provide a great deal of pool space but are better suited if you plan to use the deep and shallow ends of the pool at the same time for different activities.

Lagoon Style Pool

For a stunning, natural look, choose a lagoon style pool. This style of pool is a type of free-form pool, which means it does not have a standard shape and is instead designed to fit the contours of your particular landscape. As a result, it has an outline that resembles that of a natural lagoon or lake instead of a rigid, geometric shape. When designing a lagoon style pool, you can add to the natural feel by incorporating trees and plants in the poolside landscape. Boulders and other rock formations may be placed around the pool for a naturalistic effect as well. However, if you want a truly dramatic look for your lagoon style pool, a rock waterfall adds appropriate drama and visual interest.

Beach Entry Pool

One of the more individual designs available for a pool is the beach entry style. Unlike traditional pools that feature steps leading down to the pool's shallow end, a beach entry provides a more natural descent into your pool's water. Instead of steps, the pool's deck gradually slopes down below the water surface so the pool slowly becomes deeper as you move forward just as when you enter the ocean at the beach. Like a lagoon style pool, beach entry pool designs are ideal for including natural elements, like boulders and waterfalls, because they help further the illusion of being at the beach or another natural body of water.

Cut A Back Brace For A Stool

It's easy to add a back brace to a stool to create a chair.

Turning a stool into a chair is as simple as adding a back to it. Creating a back brace for your chair will depend on the shape of the seat of your stool as well as the material it is made from. The easiest material to work with is wood, although these plans can be used with aluminum, steel and iron. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure and mark five equal lengths from one side of the back of the stool seat to the other. These marks should be inset 1 to 1 1/2 inches from the back of the seat.

2. Choose a drill bit that is the same width as the bottom peg on the pre-fabricated spindles. Drill a hole the same depth as the peg at every spot you marked on the stool.

3. Fill each hole with wood glue and insert the pegs of the spindles.

4. Measure the length of the back of the stool. Cut this length from the 2-inch-by-8-inch board with a circular saw to use as the upper back brace.

5. Sand the top and sides of the upper back brace with an electric sander.

6. Measure and mark five equal sections on the bottom of the upper back brace. Drill them in the same way as you did the spindle holes on the stool.

7. Cover the top of the spindle pegs with wood glue and slip the back brace into place. Wipe away any excess glue with a piece of scrap cloth. Allow the chair to dry overnight.

8. Stain the new back brace and spindles to match the stool.

What Is A Family Room In A Hotel

Staying in an hotel should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, even if you take your youngsters with you. Going on family trips together will usually require the use of a large suite or family room in a hotel.

Room Facilities

Family rooms in hotels usually consist of similar utilities that any hotel room will include. For example, there will be a TV with cable service, full-size bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer.

Family Room Facilities

A family room will also have two queen-size beds and a pull-out cot or sofa bed to accommodate young children. Some hotels offer family suites with a separate bedroom. Baby cots are also available at many hotels. Pets are usually accommodated too if families wish to bring the dog on vacation.

Longer-Stay Facilities

Some family-oriented hotel rooms will also have kitchenette and dining areas where meals can be prepared for the family. A microwave oven and a regular cooker may also be provided as well as a refrigerator and sink. Some hotels may offer some games for children, such as jigsaw puzzles or coloring books, but this is not common.

Interior Design Ideas For Ranchstyle Brick Bungalows

Ranch-style brick houses are typically one story with a rectangular shape and a squat look. People sometimes associate the house style with the 1960s, but it was around years before and people still build these houses now. The ranch style is sometimes combined with a bungalow style, giving the house separate areas for living and sleeping. Interior design ideas for this type of house give you a chance to pay homage to the original design or update it to the modern day. Does this Spark an idea?

Stick to Tradition

Homeowners tend to update ranch houses with new features that give the house an entirely new look. For a different feel, try restoring the house and giving it a more original or traditional look. Pick colors that were popular during the decade or era when the house was first built. For example, a 1960s house might have originally had dark blue furniture with gold, silver or white accents around the space. A house from the 1940s more likely had lighter shades, including salmon pink or baby blue. Adding mid-century modern pieces of furniture, such as those from Eames, also works with tradition. Give the space a retro and vintage feel that has a fresh look.

A Modern Update

Updating your ranch bungalow is best if you aren't crazy about a vintage look. Ranch houses are typically bright and airy, which gives the house a slightly modern look. Work with the brightness by picking light and bright colors. Lighter shades of blue and green have a modern look, especially when combined with chrome accent pieces. Use stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, which work with the chrome in the living room. Pick one statement piece for each room, such as a large painting in the living room. Pick colors that work with your statement piece.

Make Use of What You Have

Combine the two ideas by using newer items with a few traditional pieces in the house. Depending on when your house was built, you may have some built-in furniture, including bookcases and couches. Upholster the furniture in modern fabrics and use new throw pillows, giving the space a more contemporary look. Give any furniture a new coat of paint or stain. Give built-in kitchen appliances, such as toasters or coffee makers, a new look with a coat of polish and place few new accessories around the room. Decorate the front hallway with a combination of vintage and modern items, giving guests an idea of what to expect in the rest of the house.

Spanish Style Architecture

Red-tiled roofs are a hallmark of Spanish architecture.

Spanish-style architecture features low-pitched, red-tiled roofs, white stucco walls and arched windows and doors. Other elements include decorative tile work surrounding windows and doorways, elaborate wrought-iron grill work on balconies, and bell towers. Spanish architectural style combines details from Moorish, Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance cultures. In the United States, a revival of this style borrows details from early Spanish missions in America, such as the one in San Juan Capistrano, California. Does this Spark an idea?

Exterior Features

Prominent exterior features of Spanish architecture include low-pitched, clay-tiled roofs, minimal or no eave overhang, arched windows, doorways and porch entrances, thick stucco walls and asymmetrical facades. These Mediterranean-style structures are often built in a semi-circle around an enclosed courtyard. The courtyard usually has brick or tile floors. Porches with multiple arched openings often face the courtyard or side yard.

Interior Features

Inside, Spanish style architecture continues the rustic themes found outside. The stucco walls, arched doorways, tile work and other fine craftsmanship are repeated in rooms throughout Spanish-style homes. High ceilings often have exposed wood beams and wrought-iron chandeliers. Hardwood floors, decorative balustrades, plaster interiors and large fireplaces are other features.

Examples

The architecture of Spain is quite varied, from Roman ruins to the modern and futuristic. Some of the oldest sites include the aqueduct of Segovia and the Roman Theater of Merida. The opposite extreme stands in Barcelona, home of Antoni Gaudi's ornate Sagrada Familia cathedral. The Moorish influence is displayed at sites such as the Great Mosque of Cordoba, one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions. The style most copied in Spanish Revival homes of the early 20th century, however, draws upon Spanish missions and churches built in the New World.

History

Renewed interest in the Spanish style of architecture resulted in part from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, the Colombian Exposition, where European styles were interpreted in accurate detail. American architects began designing period houses for wealthy clients based on these styles. Many historically accurate homes were erected between 1900 and 1929. The Spanish Revival houses, also known as Spanish Eclectic, were concentrated in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida and California, but they can be found throughout the United States.

Care For Lacquer Furniture

Proper care is necessary to help preserve lacquer furniture.

Lacquer furniture consists of a resinous surface layer over wood. Since lacquer provides a hard, durable finish, the surface layer protects the wood from polishes, oils and polluted air. This surface layer also adds natural beauty to the wood, enhancing the appearance of the furniture. Waxes, polishes, smoke and dust can accumulate on the surface of lacquer furniture, which then needs to be cleaned. Proper care is necessary to lengthen the life of lacquer furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Wipe a hidden area of the lacquer with a damp cloth to the make sure water will not damage the lacquer. If no damage occurs, wipe down the lacquer with the damp cloth. Then rub the lacquer surface with a soft, dry cloth.

2. Remove oily marks and fingerprints by applying a solvent-based furniture cleaner to the lacquer. Apply the cleaner with a cloth, and then rub the cloth over the lacquer. Wipe off the cleaner with another cloth.

3. Apply liquid wax to the lacquer twice a year to protect the finish from minor scratches and scuffs. Pour some wax onto the surface, and then rub the wax into the lacquer with super-fine steel wool. Finish by buffing the dry wax with a terry cloth.

Adjust Recliner Chairs

Use buttons or a lever to adjust a reclining chair.

Reading a book or watching TV while sitting in a reclining chair is a rewarding way to unwind after a hard day's work. If you have a new reclining chair, you can learn operate it in a few minutes. If your chair gives too much or too little resistance when tilting back, you can make a small adjustment to change its tension. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Move coffee tables or other pieces of furniture away from the front of the chair so they don't get in the way of the footrest.

2. Locate the lever or buttons that control the chair's recliner mechanism. The lever is typically located on the right hand side of the chair. Buttons are usually located on the chair's arm or side.

3. Sit in the chair. If the recliner mechanism is operated by a lever, lean back to put pressure on the back of the chair while pulling the lever up to recline the chair and lift the footrest. Keep leaning and pulling until the chair is reclined to your satisfaction, then let go of the lever to stop reclining. If your chair is operated by buttons, press the recline button to recline the chair and lift the footrest. Stop pressing when the chair is reclined to your satisfaction.

4. Lean forward in the chair, put pressure on the footrest and lift the lever up or press the release button to return the chair to its original position. Leave the chair in its original position and move to the next step if you need to adjust recliner tension.

5. Locate two wing nuts or thumb wheels on the bottom of the recliner. They should be positioned near the back or the center of the recliner's bottom.

6. Turn the nuts or wheels clockwise to increase tension. Turn them counterclockwise to reduce tension.

Hip Nursery Ideas

A mobile is a functional piece that ties into the theme of the nursery.

With the impending arrival of a new baby, parents may have a long list of necessary tasks. Among those is preparing and decorating the nursery. With an abundance of options available, designing a hip nursery can be a daunting mission. Because the room must be functional as well as visually appealing, new parents may find that developing a theme will make the task much easier. Does this Spark an idea?

Fun Color Combinations

Although blue and pink are typically popular in a nursery, overusing the colors can make the space unbearable. To tone down the popular baby colors, implement a coordinating neutral color. For instance, combine a rich chocolate with pink or blue to make the nursery a cozy, calm space. These two color combinations are extremely popular, so a number of products are available for purchase.

Lime green is another popular color that coordinates well with baby pink or blue. Locate bed linens composed of the color combination. Jazz up a white rocking chair with a pink throw pillow and coordinating blanket draped over the back.

Retro Prints

Paisley and houndstooth are retro prints that are on the rebound. Fortunately, both prints come in a number of colors, so incorporating them into the nursery will be almost effortless. Paint the walls to coordinate with the primary color of the print. Locate printed fabric for curtains and a crib skirt. Purchase an area rug and toss pillows to coordinate with the other colors in the print. Locate a retro-inspired lamp to further incorporate the retro theme.

Animals

Kids love animals, so animal themes are always popular in nursery design. Choose bed linens and curtains that highlight zoo or farm animals. Purchase stuffed animals to decorate shelves. Alternatively, give the animal theme a more fashionable edge by decorating with zebra or leopard print. Locate pink bedding and add a crib skirt or area rug in zebra print. Do not overuse the animal print as it will easily take over the room.

Sports

Incorporate a sports theme into the nursery for a new baby boy. Choose one sport or integrate equipment from a variety of sports. Alternatively, you may choose to highlight a favorite team. Purchase a comforter that resembles a football field and hang a football mobile over the crib. Place a baseball throw pillow on a rocking chair. Substitute a curtain rod with a golf club or hockey stick. In place of framed pictures, hang a basketball goal.

Get Rid Of All The Steam In "Epic Mickey"

In Disney's "Epic Mickey" for the Nintendo Wii, you guide Mickey Mouse through a variety of hazardous obstacles. Along the way, you can offer to take on side quests to aid other characters in the game. For example, in Slalom, an area in Gremlin Village, Gremlin Gus will ask you to do some patchwork on several steam pipes as you travel through the stage.

Instructions

1. Paint the wall of gears to open the entrance door. Beyond the door, steam pipes will begin working and a gremlin will ask you to patch the pipes that are emitting steam.

2. Walk forward and patch the first pipe with paint. The pipe hangs between two large gears near the ceiling. The steam can damage Mickey, so don't get too close.

3. Go around the corner and paint the gaps in the floor to proceed.

4. Patch the next pipe on right side of the hallway. Although it is positioned near the floor, it is difficult to miss as the steam will partially block your path forward.

5. Continue walking until you reach a gap in the floor. Paint the floor, while avoiding the steam.

6. Patch the pipe on the left. This pipe contains two gaps, so make sure that you fill in both gaps to complete the mission.

7. Play through the rest of the stage and battle the two Spatters near the end of the level. The Spatters are small creatures that will rush at you, but you can swat them away with basic attacks. After the Spatters retreat, you will receive the Tunnels artwork as a reward for patching the pipes.

Water Olive Trees

Olive trees are evergreen trees or shrubs that produce olives and olive oil. In caring for an olive plant, water is the most important ingredient. Correct watering practices encourage plant growth more than fertilizer. Knowing the right way to water a tree from its initial planting is essential to the tree's health. With a little knowledge on the olive tree's needs, you can grow a strong and productive plant. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Buy drip irrigation emitters, which are essential for watering an olive tree plant. They focus the water flow around the roots instead of spreading it over an entire area. This saves water and shortens the duration of watering.

2. Attach a drip emitter to your hose. If you plant the olive tree in the spring, place the emitter next to the tree trunk. Turn it on every day for an hour throughout the spring and into the summer. If the soil becomes even slightly dry, irrigate.

3. Irrigate daily until the plant is established and you notice new growth. You then can gradually decrease the frequency and length of watering. If the plant looks like it needs a boost, increase the watering frequency again. Stop watering in the late fall or early winter when the tree becomes dormant.

4. Add another emitter the next spring, and position them two feet from the trunk on opposite sides. Water throughout the summer dry. In the following years, water only during long drought periods.

Play Coop Missions On "Red Dead Redemption"

Rockstar Games released the "Outlaws to the End" expansion pack for "Red Dead Redemption" in June 2010. This free bonus featured six co-op missions for online players to complete. Each mission features an elaborate storyline that requires players to make their way across several territories, taking out enemies as they progress. These online games follow the structure of a storyline mission, unlike other multiplayer modes. Teams of two to four players must work together to complete the mission and claim the reward at the end.

Instructions

1. Choose "Multiplayer" from the main game menu to enter "Free Mode."

2. Hit the "Select" button to open the "Multiplayer" menu. Scroll down to select "Cooperative Missions" and hit "A" or "X" to enter co-op mode.

3. Walk up to the dummies in the lobby to evaluate the various weapon packs. Choose your weapon selection by walking to the dummy of your choice and hitting "Y" or "Triangle."

4. Wait in the lobby for the game to start. Since success in co-op games depends on at least one member of your team surviving each round, going into a mission with four players is the wisest choice.

5. Follow on-screen prompts for mission goals. Kill enemies to stay alive while completing the mission goals.

6. Ensure at least one teammate reaches each checkpoint. Once this player reaches a checkpoint, each of the fallen team members can re-enter the game.

Decorating Craftsman Style Homes With Mission Style Arts

The British Arts and Crafts Movement encouraged people to build simple homes of wood and other natural materials and to decorate them with hand-crafted pottery, metalware, stained glass lighting and furniture. The movement came to the United States in the early 20th century, where it became the American Craftsman Movement. Does this Spark an idea?

The Arts and Crafts Movement

Craftsman-style homes are examples of the American interpretation of the Arts and Crafts Movement, which emerged in Britain at the end of the 19th century. Primarily a reaction against the factory-made, mass-produced home furnishings that were products of the Industrial Revolution, the Arts and Crafts Movement championed the creation of simply designed houses made from and furnished with natural materials such as wood, stone, and hand-crafted objects.

The Arts and Crafts Movement crossed the Atlantic to the United States about the turn of the century, where it became known as the American Craftsman Movement. Almost immediately, the tenets of the movement inspired Gustav Stickley, a furniture-maker who worked in New York state, to adapt a different approach to designing his products. From 1901 till 1916, Stickley also published the influential magazine The Craftsman, which promoted the American Craftsman philosophy.

Craftsman Homes in the United States

Craftsman houses caught the public imagination because they were simple and practical, and yet were very adaptable to the needs and personal styles of their residents, according to Paul Duchscherer and Douglas Kiester, co-authors of "Inside the Bungalow: America's Arts and Crafts Interior." Characterized by simple floor plans and extensive use of wood paneling, wainscoting and floors (usually oak), Craftsman designs are surprisingly adaptable---even contemporary art can find a comfortable place in one of these houses. If you want to achieve a true period look, however, you should decorate your Craftsman home with Mission-style furniture and decorative art pieces.

Mission Style Furniture

"Mission-style" is the description that Joseph McHugh, another New York furniture manufacturer, used to describe the rustic, straight-lined furniture he started making about 1895. Stickley soon began to develop furniture with a similar aesthetic, and by the turn of the century, "Mission-style," "Arts and Crafts," and "Craftsman" were pretty much interchangeable descriptions for this furniture style. Constructed mainly from oak, the furniture had clean lines, narrow wooden slats that supported chair arms and formed the backs of sofas and settees, and, often, leather cushions.

Aesthetics and Decorative Objects

Decorative objects common in the heyday of the Craftsman movement included stained glass lighting fixtures and table lamps; Roseville, Weller and Rookwood pottery; metalware bowls, bookends and firewood holders by Roycroft and Heintz; and area rugs and other textiles. To fit into the Craftsman aesthetic, objects had to be handcrafted, but they were not necessarily plain or unadorned. Warm colors inspired by natural materials dominate the Craftsman palette, with modest additions of mild green and blue shades.

Stained glass was mainly cream-colored or amber, though ornate, wildly colored chandeliers and sconces also showed up regularly in Craftsman homes. Metalware made from brass, copper, and iron, rather than silver or another more costly metal, predominates.

Ceramic pieces made by manufacturers like Roseville, Weller, and Rookwood are among the most expressive of the Mission-style arts. Frequently featuring raised floral or decorative patterns, in colors ranging from the subdued to the exuberant, these pieces add interest to mantels and the built-in, glass-windowed bookcases so common in Craftsman houses.

Finding Mission-style Arts

You can still find antique Mission-style furniture and decorative pieces for sale at steep prices, but several companies also manufacture good reproductions that will give you the look without the high price tags. Study the originals designs until you have an idea of what to look for, and then seek out reproductions that will create the look. Keep in mind that the Craftsman aesthetic is cozy but not cluttered. Decorative pieces should complete the look of the home's interior, never compete with it.

7. Walk around the Tomb of Storms and behind the Sphinx portal you came out of to locate the beetle.

8. Enter the Well of Spirits and move up the stairs near the D'jesent Family Tomb. Turn left and look directly behind the giant Krok statue to collect the beetle.

Create A Fireplace Mantel

Fireplace mantels are often used to display prized possesions, seasonal decorations or photographs.

The right mantel can change the whole look of your fireplace and is relatively easy to build yourself. Even a simple design adds elegance to an otherwise plain fireplace. Mantels also offer a shelf for displaying everything from family pictures to a mantel clock and even bric-a-brac. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clear the area around your fireplace to give you plenty of work space. Remove fireplace doors and other accessories to prevent any damage.

2. Install mounts or brackets on which the mantel shelf will rest. Placement of the mantel shelf is generally 60 inches off the floor, but it is ultimately at your discretion. Measure the fireplace and then up from the floor to determine the appropriate placement of the brackets.

3. Level the brace brackets or mounts with the ceiling and the floor. This allows for any unevenness that that may be present in the floor. Otherwise, the mantel may appear to be off even if it is actually level.

4. Assemble the mantel to your personal specifications. The shape and materials you choose can vary from cedar to oak or even ironwork. Secure the mantel in place using at least 2-inch screws, depending on the thickness of the wall material.

Find Metal Wall Decor

This metal wall hanging makes a striking addition to a home.

Decorating your home usually begins by painting your walls. Because walls collectively represent a large portion of your home's surface area, the paint's color and texture will help to create a specific mood in each room. You also can enhance the room's mood with metal wall décor. Metal wall décor can include forged iron twisted into crazy shapes; metal wall sculptures made from steel; and metal wall plaques made from sheets of steel cut into geometric shapes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose your décor style. Decide on the type of metal wall décor you want. For example, if your home features tropical furniture and decor, you might prefer fish wall sculptures. If your décor tends to be contemporary, abstract wall hangings might appeal to you.

2. Shop at a local furniture store. Along with living room and bedroom sets, furniture stores often carry a good selection of wall décor. Depending on the store's merchandise mix, metal wall décor may be available. Don't forget to check the store's bargain section.

3. Visit a home-décor store. Usually found in medium to larger cities, home-décor stores often carry a large variety of furnishings from around the world. Metal wall décor may include wall hangings, sconces, planters and free-form sculptures. Selection likely will vary by store.

4. Explore a big-box store. In addition to household sundries and groceries, some of these stores carry furniture and home décor. Although décor styles and selection may be limited, prices are usually competitive.

5. Search for online metal wall décor. Several online retailers carry a varied selection of metal wall décor. Depending on the Web site, décor categories might include contemporary, floral, sunbursts, panels and nautical. Abstract or geometrically shaped pieces also might be available.

6. Shop on eBay. The popular auction site usually has a large number of items in the "metal wall décor" category. Many other items are available through eBay stores. Narrow your search by specifying the type or manufacturer of the metal wall décor. Check the site often as listings are added daily.

Darken A Wood Finish

If your old wood finish has become unsightly or you simply desire a new look, darkening the wood is an effective way to restore it. This is also an inexpensive alternative to completely redecorating or refinishing the wood. Completing this process is relatively easy and is possible for most people when following seven steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cover any areas you do not wish to darken with painter's tape. Also, remove any screws, hinges or other hardware that you do not want to darken as well.

2. Dip a clean rag into mineral spirits and thoroughly wipe down the wood. This will remove grease and any other debris on the wood's surface.

3. Sand the surface of the wood with a piece of 220-grit sandpaper. Go with the grain and use light strokes because you only want to sand the wood enough so that the finish will adhere to it. Wipe off any leftover debris once you have finished with a clean, slightly moist rag.

4. Apply a coat of tinted finish to the wood's surface using a clean paintbrush. Be sure to go with the grain of the wood. The color of the finish will depend on the shade you desire.

5. Allow the finish to dry for at least 12 hours. If you wish to darken the wood further, repeat the previous steps again.

6. Apply a coat of polyurethane finish to the wood using a clean paintbrush. This will help to prevent the tinted finish from bleeding and will give the wood a smoother surface. Allow this to dry for at least 12 hours as well.

7. Remove painter's tape and reattach any hardware that was removed.

Ship Cars From Illinois To Texas

Open car transport is an option, too.

Shipping a car from Illinois to Texas is a fairly simple process. Because the move is within the United States and across land rather than water, there are several shipping choices, including container services, open shipment, and dealership shipment. Each of these methods can help you to safely and easily transport your car from Illinois to Texas.

Instructions

1. Decide which shipping service to use. Options include your car dealership, a container moving service, or an open car transport.

2. Contact your car dealership about shipment. Most car dealerships will ship a car for you for a nominal fee if they have a transfer shipment going from Illinois to Texas already scheduled during your moving time-frame. Drop your car off at the service department of your dealership and pick it up at the local dealership in Texas.

3. Contact your moving company to see if they offer container car shipment services. This would allow your car to travel on the same truck as the rest of your belongings in an enclosed space. Your car will be picked up and delivered by the moving company with the rest of your belongings and stored securely in its own container for shipment.

4. Perform a quick search of the Internet or the Yellow Pages to find an open transport mover for your vehicle. Your car will travel with several other cars on a double decker open air platform pulled by a truck. Drop the car off at the mover's local office or arrange for it to be picked up at your home. The car will be delivered to your new home in Texas.

5. Contact the shipping service with the type of car that you own, your moving dates, as well as pick-up and drop-off locations. Have a credit card ready and be prepared to pay a deposit for the shipment over the phone.

6. Prepare your car for shipment to Texas. Remove all valuables from the car. Inform your insurance company of the planned shipment across state lines.

7. Arrange for drop-off or pick-up of the car on moving day. Some delivery services, particularly long-distance movers, will pick the vehicle up from your home. Dealerships will require that you bring the car to the dealership for shipment.

8. Allow five to 14 days for delivery of the car to Texas. Your shipping company should be able to provide you with an estimated time of arrival. Pay the remaining balance of the shipment upon receipt of the vehicle and tip the driver for good service.

Find Information About Old Furniture Companies

A little research can reveal the history of old dining room chairs like these.

Decorate With Painted Furniture

Painted Furniture

Painted furniture can add color and continuity to a room. If you've inherited your furniture, then this might be the right look for you. It's also the answer to decorating a room on a budget. With a little elbow grease, you can create a custom matching set. No one will know that friends and family donated their old items from their basements or attics. Painted furniture is often featured in decorating magazines and you can get the same look in your own home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Decorate with Painted Furniture

1. Create splashes of color. Painted furniture works well in apartments. It's an easy way to add color to a white or neutral room. Use bright white painted furniture for a beach or cottage space. If you want your room to feel modern, try black painted furniture. Turn to bright lime greens, pinks or turquoises for a designer look. Painted furniture even can be the focal point of your room if you don't have a fireplace.

2. Mix and match your painted pieces. When you start decorating with painted furniture, it might seem like you have to redo your entire house. You can mix painted furniture in with your existing pieces, even if they are wood. A painted side table can add color and a sense of whimsy to your room.

3. Do it yourself. You can buy painted furniture in most stores. These pieces can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. You might love the look so much that the furniture is worth the hefty price. If you are decorating on a budget, however, learn refinish furniture yourself. This way you'll be able to get a custom color to match your sofa or walls. It will also save you a lot of money.

4. Focus on lines. It might seem like all painted furniture will match each other. When you try to decorate with painted furniture, the room can seem jumbled or like a yard sale. Look at the style of the furniture. Pair mission pieces in the same room or use a Queen Anne style in the dining room. All of the pieces will correlate with each other even if they are different colors or if you didn't buy them at the same time.

5. Complete the set. One of the advantages to painted furniture is that it's versatile. Use this to your advantage when looking for a dining room set. Find mismatched chairs and paint them all the same color, or the same range of colors. This will save you money and add interest to your dining set. If you don't have a buffet, look for a painted piece that will match your existing table and chairs.

6. Go for professional finishes. It can be easy to get carried away with painted furniture. You might want to paint each drawer a different color or try out a faux finish. While this works well for a kid's room, it might look amateurish in a living room. Make sure that your paint finish is impeccable and drip free. If you want a faux finish, try lightly glazing over the edges of your painted furniture. This will give your piece an antique look that is often seen in high-end catalogs.
